From 2002 to 2008 John held the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Alumina Limited. John held various senior management roles with Pioneer International Limited and Hanson PLC from 1995 to 2002. Prior to that John also held executive management positions with James Hardie Ltd and Esso Australia Ltd. since 2012.

Cardno Limited Leadership Team
Elected by the shareholders, the Cardno's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: Cardno inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of Cardno. The board's role is to monitor Cardno's management team and ensure that shareholders' interests are well served. Cardno's inside directors are responsible for reviewing and approving budgets prepared by upper management to implement core corporate initiatives and projects.
